Meet Beth

A mother, an engineer, a former Township Supervisor, and a Lake Holiday resident, Beth Findley Smith’s conservative roots run deep.

Beth is a proud daughter of a hard-working union auto mechanic dad and an artist/nurse/teacher mom. Growing up in a modest household, Beth learned at a young age that working hard was the only way to achieve her dream of attending college. By working jobs in a nursing home and grocery store, Beth paid her own way through college and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Nuclear Engineering with a Minor in Mathematics from the University of Missouri-Rolla.

After a stint at the Department of Energy working in the Health Physics Department at Sandia National Laboratory, Beth began work in a nuclear power plant in Illinois as a Reactor Engineer in 2007.

In 2019, Beth was called to serve in government, and appointed to the South Ottawa Township Board as a Trustee. In 2020, she was appointed Township Supervisor and led the Board through the COVID-19 pandemic. While many other government bodies were shut down, Beth ensured township meetings continued to run safely and residents always had access to her if they were in need. In her term as Supervisor, she found ways to cut thousands of dollars of wasteful spending by running the office more efficiently. Continuing her work as a civil servant, she was elected to the office of Precinct Committeeperson in 2020.

Beth has always been a strong advocate for her community.  She served as a board member of the Illinois Valley Quilters’ Guild, where she led charity projects benefiting Quilts for Kids and the OSF St. Elizabeth Hospital maternity ward. A member of the Ottawa Kiwanis Club, Beth volunteered as an after-school tutor at the YMCA. At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Beth helped organize a group to make and donate face masks to those in need in the Illinois Valley. She personally made over 1,000 masks that she donated to local nursing homes and the Ottawa Elementary School district. Beth was featured on the front page of The Times Newspaper and honored at an Ottawa Elementary Board of Education Meeting for this effort. She currently enjoys delivering Meals on Wheels in her local community.

Beth is rooted in the conservative values of individual liberty, social responsibility, and hard work. She knows that freedoms like these become vulnerable when government gets too big and politicians too powerful. Continuing her political education, Beth earned her Master of Science in Political Science from Liberty University in 2023.

Growing up hunting and target shooting with her dad and grandpa, Beth is a strong supporter of the Second Amendment. A member of the Illinois State Rifle Association, she believes that the FOID Card is unconstitutional. In her first term as County Board Member, Beth led the charge on writing and passing a resolution opposing the “Protect Illinois Communities Act” aka Illinois Assault Weapons Ban.

Beth Findley Smith has high hopes for La Salle County and is running for re-election for La Salle County Board in District 4 to protect your freedoms and ensure your hard-earned tax dollars are spent wisely. She will be your voice on the County Board, making tax relief for hardworking La Salle County residents a top priority.
